SRT Pre-Hospital Bootcamp

April 25 – 27, 2020 - Brantford, Ontario

TBD - Edmonton, Alberta

TBD - Brantford, Ontario

Complete hands-on ultrasound education.

SRT Prehospital Bootcamp is a three day workshop that is designed specifically for prehospital, aeromedical transport, tactical, remote/austere, and adventure/expedition medicine providers. If you are a paramedic, critical care nurse, medic, RN, or doctor working in one of these environments, this is the course for you!  Learn protocol based ultrasound applications for shock, trauma, respiratory distress, and venous access.  Emphasis on effective, efficient, safe, and FAST integration of ultrasound in your specialty environment for disposition and life saving intervention decisions.

Learn the following protocols:

  • Trauma protocol (identify abdominal free fluid, pleural effusion, pneumothorax, hemothorax, and pericardial effusion)
  • Respiratory Distress protocol (identify cardiogenic pulmonary edema)
  • Cardiac Arrest protocol (integrate ultrasound effectively into cardiac arrest scenarios)
  • Difficult venous access protocol (ultrasound guided peripheral venous access)

Training will advance from image generation, image interpretation, to clinical integration. Acute care, shock and resuscitation scenarios will be used to teach candidates how to safely, efficiently, and effectively incorporate PREHOSPITAL POCUS into their clinical management protocols.

Prerequisite: This is a stand alone CPoCUS IP certification course. CPoCUS approved introductory course (ie. EDE 1) is recommended but not required.

Prehospital Bootcamp Info

  1. Why is this Bootcamp so expensive?

Scanning begins immediately on your arrival on Day 1. You will experience a 2:1 candidate to instructor ratio, scan over 80 different live patients, and be taught by Canada’s leading ultrasound experts. Every minute of the course has been planned for maximum efficiency to ensure that you get the best quality, highest calibre instructional experience possible. The registration fee reflects the true cost to conduct this course.

  2. Why this Bootcamp and not one of the other CPoCUS IP Certification courses?

We are the original CPoCUS PREHOSPITAL IP Certification course. No other ultrasound course exists in Canada that directly address the ultrasound training requirements of the Prehospital community. The calibre of our instructors is unmatched. This is not just an introductory course – you will leave this three day bootcamp feeling ready and confident to immediately integrate ultrasound into your clinical practice.

  3. How should I prepare for this course?

After you have registered and paid in full for the course, you will receive an Aide-Memoire that will guide you through how to best prepare for this course. All pre-course material will be provided to you. There are online videos, detailed written image generation/image interpretation/clinical application material, and a practice written exam. Please allow yourself more then 10 hours to work through this material prior to Day One of the course.

  4. What is the CME for this Bootcamp?

Depending on your professional background this will vary. We will update this shortly and provide further details.

  5. Is there another way to pay for this course?

If you are unable to pay by credit card or PayPal, contact us about sending a cheque or money order. Registration is not confirmed until the payment is successfully deposited. A receipt will be emailed to you at that time.

  6. What is the cancellation policy if I wish to cancel my registration?

You will receive a full refund, minus a $300 administration fee, for any cancellations requested up to 1 month before the first day of the course. No refunds will be given for cancellations that are requested in the last four weeks before Day One of the course.

  7. What happens if a course is cancelled?

In the rare event that a course is cancelled for any reason, you will be refunded the registration fee in full. All other expenses incurred by you are at your own risk.

  8. What should I keep in mind for travel arrangements?

It is recommended that you arrive the day prior to Day One of the course so that you can get settled in. The Bootcamp usually finishes at 1700hrs on the last day of the course. Please allow yourself more then two hours to travel to Pearson International Airport after the expected course completion time.

  9. Am I guaranteed to receive IP certification?

Every opportunity will be given to you to achieve the standard required to attain IP certification. Unfortunately, there is always a chance that a participant will fail the retake of an exam or not obtain all the needed scans to qualify for certification with CPoCUS. If the instructors do not feel a participant is safe and competent to perform the applications they will recommend additional training be obtained at a later date. This is EXTREMELY RARE, as we work hard to identify those needing extra assistance and spend additional time addressing challenges.

Day 1 Day will begin at 0730 and end at 1730hrs. 4 x 2hr scanning sessions will focus on ultrasound image generation. Written exam (1hr) will be completed in the afternoon. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for you.
Day 2 Day will begin at 0730 and end at 1730hrs. 4 x 2hr scanning sessions will focus on ultrasound image interpretation, trouble shooting, and clinical integration. Practical exams will begin late in the afternoon. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for you.
Day 3 Day will begin at 0730 and end at 1730hrs. 2 x 2hr scanning sessions will focus on completing all required scans and practical exams. Visual exams (1:1) will begin once all scans and practical exams are completed. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for you.

Interested in becoming part of our Instructor Team? This is an excellent way to continue to advance your skills and just hang out and play with some of the best PoCUS experts in Canada! We invite Apprentice Instructors to come to our Bootcamps and instruct in a mentored environment. Apprentice Instructors attend an afternoon of training with our Master Instructors on the day prior to Day One of the Bootcamp. Apprentice Instructors will then teach for the rest of that bootcamp. All your travel/accommodation expenses are covered and you are invited to Team meals on the evening of the Instructor Training and Day One of the Bootcamp. Once your instructor skills are confirmed as an Apprentice Instructor (usually one Bootcamp), you will be invited to participate in future Bootcamps as an Instructor, receive a daily stipend (in addition to reimbursement of your travel/accommodation expenses), and belong to our Team! Send us an email if you are interested in this opportunity.
